We hope you "like" our new puppy

Truth be told, DrawtheDog.com may not be the best place to raise a puppy. We don't get many photos of dogs sitting calmly at attention. When you write us about your dogs, it is usually to share how they managed to release the emergency brake on your car and drive to PetSmart.

You may remember the time that an owner had to sleep in the dog bed, because when he arrived home late one night his dogs had already taken all the furniture and beds. We know how fast things can go bad.

But just look at Doodle... how can you resist a (magenta) face like that? He's loving and cute and silly and curious and did we mention loving?

No matter, he's our puppy now. And Doodle is one very happy little dog. You would be, too, if the entire virtual world was your playground. Most dogs only have the backyard or a dog park in which to play. Doodle has everything from Google to Baidu, and back to Facebook and HuffPost. Not bad for a little guy.

Doodle the dog sits

Doodle is bringing a lot of joy to our lives, and we hope he does the same for you. We welcome your ideas and training tips, but please keep in mind that any behavioral problems may not be his fault. The buck stops here, as they say. Bad Jim!

Spread the love, and mischief

Tell your friends about Doodle. Tell your boss. Heck, tell your boss's boss. March right into her office, all confident as can be, and say, "Isn't he adorable?"

Or - if you want to keep your job - you might simply jump onto Facebook, Dogster, HuffPost and the good old telephone. Pass the word. Doodle is after one thing: total puppy domination.

You see, we know something you don't. We were warned. You know when you adopt a dog from the Humane Society, you have to sign a document that shows you know how much money it will cost you to take care of a dog? We had to sign something that said we understood that keeping a virtual puppy on a popular and heavily-linked website would lead to almost-certain chaos.

Watch out, Web.

Origins

On January 3, we adopted Doodle from Multiverse Labs and Rescue, which saves virtual dogs from a life appearing in obnoxious TV commercials and bad sitcoms.

What breed?

So far as we can tell, Doodle has a bit of every breed in him. It's almost as though someone mixed together the 400 or 500 dogs who have inspired Draw the Dog cartoons and put them into a single puppy. Maybe exactly like that.

Training

We have a few strict rules for Doodle. The first is that he can't go into the real world, which has real cars, real traffic, and real hazards. The second is he has to listen to us at least 27% of the time. There used to be one other rule, but we forgot it.
